With $120,000 raised in the last 11 years thanks to the generosity of those attending the performances, countless lives have been changed. And this year will be no different. Help us make a real difference as we raise money for the Salvation Army and Samaritan’s Purse.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and 117 countries around the world. The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, provides shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.

When you give to The Salvation Army, you are investing in the future of marginalized and overlooked people in your community.

Samaritan’s Purse: Turn on the Tap

For 884 million people, having no access to a safe water supply is a daily reality. Every year 1.4 million children die from diarrhoeal diseases – diseases transmitted through contaminated water and poor hygiene practices. Every day more than 3,800 children die from a diarrhoeal disease, that means one child dies every 20 seconds.

Unsafe water sources that people are forced to use every day are killing thousands.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada is attacking this travesty by installing BioSand Water Filter in homes throughout the developing world. These simple household water filters effectively remove up to 99 per cent of all water-borne pathogens, along with particulate matter. The result is water that is safe to drink, cook and clean with.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada has provided more than 104,000 families around with the world with safe water through the BioSand Water Filter and another 2,000 filters are installed each month, along with essential health and hygiene training. It is our goal to have installed filters in 135,000 homes, schools, and hospitals by May of 2010 giving safe water to over one million people.

Past Years

Last year, the Gift of Christmas focused it’s efforts on raising money to help build “A Home for Agnes“, an orphanage in Ghana, Africa. A big thanks is extended to the people who came out and donated. The house has been built and we’re excited to be able to give you a video update when you come to the performance this year.

In 2006, an astounding $34,500 was raised for CHEO over the ten performances, and Max Keeping from CTV Ottawa joined Fred Bartlett, President of CHEO, to accept the cheque. In 2007, we were delighted to present a record-breaking $37,000 to the Children’s Wish Foundation. Last year, we proudly gave the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Program a total $30,000, thanks to the donations of those who attended the production.

The production continues to grow as does the generosity of the people of Ottawa and surrounding areas.
